Hi, I’m Dr. Lindsay Solfelt. I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of Idaho and am so excited to be a part of the Eagle Therapist Collective crew.
My husband once asked me why I wanted to be a psychologist. I smiled as a former client came to my mind. When we first met, this client had been struggling with anxiety, impossibly high expectations, and a drive for perfectionism that often left her feeling defeated and incompetent. In one of our last sessions together, she shared that when she noticed uncomfortable thoughts and emotions, instead of trying to avoid them or bury them, she was able to acknowledge them. She had compassion for herself and then responded without letting them drive her behavior. She expressed feeling empowered and back in control of her experience.
She did not eliminate her unwanted thoughts or emotions, but was able to see them and respond in a more helpful way. This was not because of some great wisdom that I gave her. Therapy is a partnership. She did the hardest work of putting it all into practice. I simply had the privilege of being there to guide and support her. It may not feel like the most dramatic story, but for her that was life changing.
This is why I do what I do. My hope for all my clients - no matter what brings you in - is to get to a place where you are in the driver seat, not your thoughts, emotions, or past experiences.
My professional background:
I completed my Masters and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Regent University in Virginia. I sought extensive training as a well-rounded generalist in order to best serve my clients with a comprehensive holistic view of mental health. Following graduate school, I moved to Boise to complete my pre- and postdoctoral training at the Boise VA Medical Center, where I then remained on staff. I was honored to support Veterans and their loved ones as they addressed stressors that took place before, during, and/or after their service through individual, couple, and group psychotherapy.
While my training and professional experience cover a wide array of individual and couples concerns, I also have a heart for those navigating the rollercoaster that is pregnancy, postpartum, infertility, loss and the many joys/heartbreaks this time can hold. I have pursued additional professional education and am in the process of becoming a certified perinatal mental health specialist.
In my practice, I enjoy collaborating with clients in order to work together to address what is most important to you, utilizing evidence-based approaches and tailoring them to your unique needs and situation. My style is relaxed and supportive, yet direct to help you reach your goals. I aim to provide a safe space for you to process, make sense of, and find ways to more effectively deal with whatever life may have thrown your way.
My specialties include:
I also provide psychological assessment for a variety of concerns including diagnostic clarification or general assessment to better understand yourself, your approach to the world, and what barriers may be getting in the way.
While I’m not at work, I’m trying to keep up with my three small children, hiking in the foothills, or unimpressively experimenting with sourdough as a newbie to the homemaking scene. Through it all, choosing joy and grace during this busy season of life.
Reach out to schedule a free phone consultation to see if we might be a good fit.
Warmly,
Dr. Lindsay Solfelt
